Karbonn is one of the leading mobile phone brand in the country. Karbonn is a joint venture between Bangalore-based UTL Group and Delhi-based Jaina Group. The company has introduced the A5S, a smartphone to the market. The box content includes a handset, headset, battery, charger, USB cable and user manual. Let's discuss the A5S in detail.

Design and Display

Karbonn A5S is designed by using a candy bar format and is easy to use and carry. The phone not only looks good but even feels good to hold. The device features a TFT capacitive touchscreen of 4.0-inches which provides a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The phone features only three feather touch keys present below the display which are well responsive to the input signals.

Hardware and Software

The A5S is powered by the dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and a RAM of 512 MB. The phone has an internal memory 4 GB which can be expanded up to 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card. The Karbonn A5S runs on the Android v4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. All of these enables the A5S to handle the apps efficiently.

Telephony and Messaging

The A5S is a dual SIM device that operates on 2G (GSM 900/1800MHz) and 3G (HSDPA 2100MHz) frequencies. Phonebook has the capacity to store an unlimited number of contacts. Moreover, the call quality offered is quite good at all the times. The SMS, MMS, Email and IM are some of the messaging and emailing facilities available for the phone.

Camera

Karbonn A5S has a main camera of 5 MP which is featured with a LED flash, auto-focus, digital zoom and takes 2592x1944 resolution pictures even in low light conditions. There is a VGA front-facing camera available for the device that enables the users to video calling.

Multimedia

The music player and FM radio provides entertainment to the users and supports the popular audio formats. The phone is also featured with a video player and recorder. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack available for the device. It also comes pre-loaded with various apps which includes the Google search, Gmail, Google talk, You-Tube, whats-app, play store, kingsoft office, opera mini, Karbonn store and Google maps.

Connectivity and Battery

The connectivity attributes available for the device are 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hands-free, Bluetooth v4.0 and micro USB v2.0. The A-GPS support is also there which helps in navigation. The A5S comes equipped with a Li-Ion 1400 mAh battery to ensure a better usage time.

The approximate price value for Karbonn A5S is Rs.4,454. This is a decent phone from Karbonn but it lacks in terms of service providers and resale value. The main rivals of Karbonn A5S are Lava Iris 404e, Lenovo A369i, Celkon Campus A60 and iBall Andi 4 Velvet.
