Nokia E90
Maxabout Review
Best Communicator Ever
Monday, November 26, 2007
Nokia E90 looks very professional and extremely stylish at the same time. Depending on colour version, it's dark brown or red is with shiny silver frame surrounding the display and black keypad, silver rocker key with large and very solid metal hinges. The external screen's resolution is QVGA with 240x320 pixels, 16 million colors and the physical dimensions are 30x40 mm. The back side of the E90 is mostly occupied by the battery cover.
The battery is the new 1500 mAh BP-4L providing 5 hours of talk time and up to 14 days of standby. The bottom part of the phone is occupied by USB Mini-B slot (USB 2.0 Full Speed, no USB charging), charger connector and audio connector. Even though called A/V connector in some official Nokia press releases, the connector only provides audio output and the E90 does not have TV out.
E90's screen is not touch sensitive but it doesn't have to be as the S60 platform used in the E90 is optimized for keyboard control. Communicators have always had large, wide displays optimized for web browsing, messaging and word processing. The Camera on the E90 is a 3.2 Megapixel CMOS with LED flash and autofocus. Maximum supported resolution is 2048x1536, which is enough for prints up to 10"x8". The shutter release button is located on the lower right side of the device.
E90 has Solid build quality; numeric keypad in addition to a QWERTY keyboard; Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS and Bluetooth stereo; supports various messaging clients including BlackBerry Connect along with a fast processor. The only drawback is that typing on the wide keyboard can be tiring after a long while and also there is no fax capability.
The concept of Nokia E90 was stated back when the first communicator Nokia 9000 saw release in 1996 – this is a device for handling email and browsing web pages. It is remarkable that many solutions created for the first communicator were then transferred onto all current Nokia-branded smart phones.
