Similar to Nokia's N95, the i450 employs a dual-slide design with music controls under the top half. Media controls for the i450 are comprised of a single-ribbed rubber semi-circle that gives the impression of being a spinning wheel. Dragging a finger over the ridges scans the music menu like an iPod's touch wheel. Combined with the on-screen interface, this feature looks great, though we found the wheel to be too sensitive when scanning menus, and often ineffective when trying to make a selection by pressing down on the wheel.
Samsung i450`s silver and white finishing makes it look classy, strong and attractive. The music touch of the phone is delivered by the iPodish click wheel for music and other navigation controls. On the back of the i450 is a 2-megapixel camera, and on the top of the phone is a 3.5mm headphone port; a very welcome addition to any music-centric mobile phone. For some reason Samsung bundle headphones with a proprietary input — similar to the input on the charger — even though the 3.5mm headphone port is crying out to be used. The i450's 40MB of internal memory can expanded by MicroSD memory cards with the slot for these on the left side of the handset.
Samsung i450 is much more slimmer than N95 (21mm, 120gram), coming with only 11.8 mm thick and only light 95 gram weight. The lightweight 3G capable handset and the compact dimensions of the handset make it easy for the user to carry in their pocket and on the palm.
This new slider features a 2.3 inch colour TFT display, displaying up to 262000 colours on the high 320 x 240 pixels resolution screen.
The i450 is a 3G Smartphone which comes complete with 3G HSDPA technology which provides the user with a multitasking & high speed mobile phone. The 3G HSDPA technology provides the user with a 3G video calling feature which allows the user to talk & see other compatible 3G contacts when on a 3G video call. The 3G video calling has become very popular & it is a fun way to communicate with friends, family & business contacts. The built in EDGE technology provides the user with a high speed data transfer which is approximately three times faster than GPRS which means the user can transfer data files at high speed. The handset comes in with USB 2.0 support, upon a successful PC connection you can choose one of the following modes:
1. Data Transfer
2. PC Suite
3. PictBrigde
4. Media Player
The volume level produced by the loudspeaker is pretty high, being in line with those Nokia-branded smartphones equipped with stereo-speakers. In fact, what Samsung has created is a music playing phone coming packaged with a number of core abilities. The choice of colors the i450 comes in is somewhat poor – there are only black; which is prone to fingerprints and white (with dark-blue accents on the sides).
