This pocket-sized device lets consumers enjoy an open Internet experience, allowing for access to the full Internet without barriers, while on the go. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is the latest iteration of Nokia's line of Internet tablets. For the first time, the power of the Internet tablet platform is combined with next-generation wide-area wireless broadband capability.
As its name suggests, this upcoming device is nearly identical to the older N810, featuring a 4.1 inch, WVGA screen; keyboard; 2 GB of internal storage; Wi-Fi; GPS; and miniSDHC slot for memory expansion.
WiMAX has its place in the wireless data market but that place is not best served in the hands of users.
WiMAX is a good alternative to cable or DSL especially in rural settings where these services are less appealing and expensive for providers to make available or providing additional competition to former. WiMAX, if available, is without a doubt a better alternative to satellite internet services due to their high latency issues. WiMAX, unlike 3G services, works best with a clear line of sight to the tower to reach peak performance. Line of sight to a tower is not feasible for a mobile devices.
A mobile device such as the N810 are meant to be used anywhere, anytime moreover many wireless data services WiMAX don’t do well when it comes to penetrating those concrete and metal structures.
While WiMax is the big story, there are a couple of other noteworthy changes to the Nokia N810. The slide-out full QWERTY keyboard has been improved to provide more tactile feedback, and it also features a new color scheme that makes it easier to find the number and symbol keys.
The N810 WiMax Edition will also ship with the latest Internet Tablet operating system that includes an enhanced e-mail client and a Seamless Software Update that will provide over-the-air software updates to your device.
