Samsung Pixon

The Pixon is advertised as the slimmest 8-megapixel phone. Though it shares the same form-factor as the iPhone and OMNIA, the Pixon is considerably thicker than its two rivals. Unfortunately today’s technology has not reached the level needed to hide an 8-megapixel module and a whole bunch of extras in an extremely slim body.
Compared to the LG Renoir, the Pixon takes itself a little more seriously. A solid-feeling black casing houses a large touchscreen and on the back an 8-megapixel camera that juts out in a similar fashion to the one on the LG Renoir. Unlike the Renoir though, the Pixon's lens cover opens and shuts automatically.
The Samsung's touchscreen is as responsive as the Renoir's screen, but not as responsive as the iPhone's or HTC G1's. You may find that at times the screen doesn't respond as expected, but with a little practice it is usable. Unlike the iPhone, there are mechanical keys for taking pictures. Pixon's texting interface offers a traditional on-screen keypad layout or a full Qwerty keypad, depending on which way you hold it.
The Pixon’s similarity to a regular point-and-shoot camera continues with the ample selection of software tweaks for the camera. First we have face detection, blink detection and smile detection, then an auto-panorama mode along with an advanced shake reduction system. There is also a 16x zoom option, but since this is a digital zoom, you probably won’t worry about it too much.
The Samsung Pixon has a built-in accelerometer which does something a little more than simply auto-rotate the screen when you change the orientation of the handset. When you’re looking through your pictures in the album, instead of pressing a button to advance, just tip the Pixon M8800 in the direction you want to go and the next picture will scroll smoothly into view.
Samsung M8800 Pixon also features an improved version of the SOS message feature. It allows you to quickly send one to five SOS messages to up to 5 predefined numbers. The message text can also be customized. After setting up the feature, all you need in case of an emergency, is to press the volume rocker 4 times with the touchscreen locked to send your cries for help.
Samsung have included their excellent MP3 player with support for the majority of common file formats. Unfortunately there is no 3.5mm jack plug for your own headphones, but there is an FM RDS radio. The large screen is perfect for a movie and since the phone supports DivX and XviD file formats, there should be plenty of compatible files to enjoy. Videos and pictures can be viewed on the big screen thanks to the addition of a TV-Out socket. Overall, Pixon is a feature rich and superb camera mobile with all the latest technologies packed within.
