Samsung has launched its new entry-level world’s first solar powered Samsung Guru E1107 mobile phone which is a dual-band GSM Candybar style entry-level mobile phone featuring 65K colors CSTN display, Solar charging, Flash light, FM Radio with FM recording and offers upto 9 hours of long battery time. It has been specially designed for users in Indian Rural areas, the new Samsung Guru E1107 phone is equipped with solar panel in the backside that allows charging the phone using solar power. Solar power, though not the main source of the power in this handset, allows charging battery to provide 5 to 10 minutes of talk time with one hour of direct sunlight exposure. It would take upto 40 hours of direct sun light (and phone switched off) to fully charge the battery.
It is a dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz ready handset which sports 3.86 cm (1.52 inch), 65K colors TFT display with 128×128 pixels resolution and it allows upto 500 number phonebook and upto 30 dialed, 30 received and 30 missed calls records.
Weighing just 79 grams, the new Samsung Guru E1107 solar power handset comes with 1-MB of internal shared storage space and it does not offers support for expandable memory storage. It features Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones and many Bollywood Ringtones are preloaded. In addition, the handset also offers a Call Time Limit feature which allows users to keep check on the talk time used per month for better control.
It also features integrated FM Radio (stereo) and it allows upto maximum 5-minute duration live recording from FM radio. The live recorded sound clips can only be used as ring tones or alarms. It is armed with mobile tracker feature that helps users track their phone in case they happen to lose it and a powerful speakerphone is included to give users a hands-free comfort.
The handset also offers Hinglish SMS feature which facilitates faster typing and makes messaging more fun, as it recognizes both English and Hindi words. It offers GPRS Class 10 data connection and it also sports USB v2.0 port interface for wired connectivity. Other features includes SOS Message, applications such as PC Studio, Calendar, Calculator, and Alarm, and Java Games. Available in two colors Metallic black and grey, it comes with 1000 mAh Li-lon battery which offers upto 9 hrs of talk time on full charge and upto 450 hrs of standby time. It is priced at Rs. 2799.00 in India.
