Motorola DROID Maxx Review

Overview

Good Mid-level Android Smartphone

Motorola Droid Maxx is a full package phone by Motorola. It is the middle of the three-phone range that Motorola has rolled out. The phone is truly a smartphone with many innovative features.

Motorola Droid Maxx Design and Build Quality

The phone has a very modern face. Also this is one of the best phones we have seen so far in terms of grip. The phone has a solid Grippy Kevlar backing, which makes it very comfortable to hold in hand, and even the big screen does not hamper the way of use. The phone does not attract fingerprints and there are no smudges on the screen at all. The phone has a strong battery life in fact it is one of the best in class. With a battery of 3500mAh the phone will last you for 2 days without charge.

User Interface and Comfort to Use Motorola Droid Maxx

The phone is power packed with the new Moto UI. It is based on Android 4.2.2 Jellybean software. The phone has a dual core processor and 32GB of internal memory. There is not SD card slot, which limits the memory of the phone. The Droid command centre lets you access settings, streaming and other info from the locked screen. The phone responds to voice commands very well and even better than other android devices. The gesture inputs on the phone are excellent and we especially liked the 45-degree twist you need to do to turn on camera and take pictures. The phone is fast. The screen is 5-inch Super AMOLED HD display with 720p resolution. The display is crisp and clear.

Telephony and Phonebook

The phone supports 2G, 3G and 4G operations. Call quality on the phone is great. Noise cancellation is good and in mildly crowded areas the voice comes out clear. Phonebook has social integration so that all information comes at one place.

Messaging and Emails

Standard messaging and email options are available on the phone. All of your email accounts can be easily integrated and made available on a click.

Gallery, Photo Viewer and Video Player

The gallery contains photos, videos, and songs. The photo viewer is interactive. You can edit, rotate, crop and add special effects to the photos. Photos are stored in separate folders of camera, and social networks. The video player supports all formats and plays effortlessly. The MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player can be accessed with voice command too.

Motorola Droid Maxx Music Player and FM Radio

The phone does not have an inbuilt FM radio but you can download an app for that. The music from the phone is good although not great. The earphones and equalizers work very well and we enjoyed the musical experience.

Motorola Droid Maxx Camera and Image Quality

The phone has a 10MP rear camera with all the works of auto focus, flash, zoom, timer etc. The front camera is 2MP, which is good enough for chats, video calls, and even taking pictures. The rear camera also offers features like white balance, modes etc. The picture quality is good but not in low light the photos are blurry and fuzzy.

Video Camera and Video Quality

Video recording can be down from both the cameras. Video recording is not very smooth and image stabilization does not work very well.

Motorola Droid Maxx Connectivity Options

4G, 3G, Edge/2G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and mobile hotspot tethering are the features that are available on the phone. Easy data transfer between two android devices has been made easy with a quick connect feature.

Organiser and Other Utility Tools

The phone boasts of all common utility tools. The organiser is efficient.

Web Browser and Applications

The phone is fast and therefore the Android browser is also very fast. You can easily read the text on websites and even the pictures can be zoomed and viewed easily. Applications include Facebook, Twitter, Google Mail, YouTube etc. More apps can be downloaded from the App store.

Google Maps and GPS

The some comes with A-GPS and is preloaded with Google Maps. Maps work very well in India and even the streets of are major cities are include.

Distinctive Features of Motorola Droid Maxx

The phone is splash resistant.

Value for money

The phone is exclusive for Verizon carrier and is not released in India.

Verdict

We would rate the phone a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
