Nokia is looking to rebuild its tarnished image by narrowing down its hopes on Windows devices. Coming from the Windows powered Lumia family, Nokia Lumia 610 is one of the most affordable and canny smartphone of recent times. The Nokia Lumia 610 is a chic and sleek smartphone just announced by Nokia. This phone is the best way to stay in touch with people. Live Tiles allow you to see updates made by your friends instantaneously. You can even change the color of Live Tiles to match your style. All your social networking and email contacts are stored in one place for fast and easy access. With the Lumia 610 you are always in touch with whatever is going on. When it comes to processing this phone is run by an 800 MHz processor and instant connectivity is provided by LTE 700. A Windows operating system with Internet Explorer 9 allows fast browsing, streaming and downloading. News, update, gossip are all within easy reach. Streaming videos has never been this smooth on a phone. When you buy a Nokia Lumia 610 you are not just buying a phone. A huge collection of apps come with it too like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps and Nokia Transport. Gaming fans can enjoy Xbox Live and download tons of free games. This phone has a 5 MP camera with LED flash and is available in 4 lustrous colors (white, black, magenta and cyan).
Nokia has experimented with typical colors like Magenta, Cyan blue and Silver, which makes the phone stand out from the pack. Nokia Lumia 610 comes with a flimsy body, which does not feel premium in hands. However the plastic chassis is stiff enough to add a tint of robustness and sturdiness to the body. The device has tinted chrome edges which gives Lumia 610- an illusionary metallic feel. Weighing 133 g, and fitting into 119.2 mm x 62.2 mm size, Nokia Lumia is easy to fit into pockets and extremely comfortable to hold.
Nokia Lumia 610 embeds a 3.7-inch (WVGA, 800x480-pixel resolution) LCD screen, which delivers smooth and clear graphics. Though LCD display delivers sub-par performance when compared to AMOLED displays, Lumia 610 also comes at a much lower price tag than AMOLED powered touch-screen devices. The off-viewing angles are decent enough, pretty much compliant by smartphone standards. However, the display delivers jittery performance when exposed to sunlight. As the LCD powered screen is not resplendent enough, the screen looks pretty dull in broad sunlight. The colors seem a lot more washed out under extreme brightness levels, making the text and images shady at times. The screen is also highly reflective which means when you’re out in the sun- you would need to cover it with your hand to read text messages or attend calls.
Nokia Lumia 610 comes powered by a single-core ARM Cortex-A5 800 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM, which are potent enough to cater your computing needs. Though most people would find the non-existence of an extra-core- sketchy, there’s no real reason to crib about it. The same configurations would have been inferior for an Android-powered smartphone but Windows Mango 7.5 is extremely light-weight and won’t require any supplementary hardware to facilitate butter-smooth performance.
Nokia Lumia 610 is ported with 8GB of internal storage, and does not come with an external MMC slot, which means you are restricted to about 7 GB of internal storage. We don’t know the real reason why Nokia didn’t include an extendable MMC option, but the inexistence of expandable memory can be a potential turn-off for people who would love to have a wide collection of songs, photos and videos on their phones. Besides, you cannot download apps incautiously, and perhaps, you might have to do away without installing your favourite apps.
Windows Mango 7.5 is snappy, eye-pleasing and intuitive. The tiled interface may be new to people using Android/iOS devices, but once you start getting familiar with the extremely well-designed interface, you would surely love every bit of it. The tiled Windows interface is extremely fast and easy to navigate. The tiles are apps-cum-widgets which showcase real-time-date and also provide access to different applications on the phone. For instance, Messaging and Mail tile reads the unread messages; the Gallery tile flips some random snapshots of stored pictures; the People tile reads your contact list and populates updates from social-media networks like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The only limitation, however, is the fewer number of apps on the Microsoft Marketplace app store, when compared to Play Store or App Store.
Nokia Lumia 610 comes with a 5MP auto-focus camera equipped with LED flash on the rear. It captures elegant and detailed images. Sadly, there’s no front camera. The rear camera is accessible by the dedicated camera button on the lower-right side of the phone. Lumia 610’s camera comes with auto-focus feature comes handy when you’ve to click photos rapidly and manually select the area of focus. Additionally, the camera comes with wide number of features like Landscape orientation, Exposure compensation, Auto and manual exposure, Geo-tagging, Auto and manual white balance, Face recognition, Full screen view finder and Center weighted auto exposure. Some of the modes which come pre-embedded with Lumia 610 are Landscape, Candlelight, Sunset, Night portrait, Sports, Beach, Night, Close-up, Snow, etc. Nokia 610 is capable of capturing images at 2592 x 1944 resolution and recording videos at 640 x 480 resolution@30fps. Unlike 710, Lumia 610 records videos in VGA quality and is not capable of recording HD videos.
Lumia 610 comes powered by an 1300mAh BP-3L battery, providing talk-time of 7.6 hours on 3G and standby time of 530 hours on 3G/GSM. By the standards of smartphone, the battery lasts sufficiently well. You can reduce the battery draining by activating the batter-saver mode provided by Windows, which cuts off battery usage by terminating unnecessary background apps and reducing the hardware utilization.
When it comes to connectivity, the Lumia 610 supports almost all connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G (HSDPA, WCDMA), and micro-USB. Nokia 610 also comes with Wi-Fi Hotspot, also known as tethering, which allows your phone to behave like an independent Wi-Fi router. Lumia 610 is perhaps the cheapest smartphone in the market to cater such a wide range of connectivity options.
Nokia Lumia 610 has its own pros and cons. Nokia Lumia 610 has a great battery life, wide range of connectivity options and looks extremely different from other smartphones. However, Lumia does disappoint app lovers; thanks to the limited number of apps and less amount of storage. The camera also captures mediocre images, and there’s a slight sluggishness while running apps. Nevertheless, though the phone feels cheap in hands (owing to the Chinese colour combination and the flimsy bezel), there’s no denying the fact that this phone delivers a holistic Windows Phone experience, at an extremely moderate price-tag. Buy Lumia 610 if you desperately need to buy a low-budget, Windows smartphone. However, considering the fact that Windows 8 has already released, we recommend choosing a Windows 8 powered smartphone.
