Overview

Samsung Chat 335 is Quite Easy to Operate

Overview of Samsung Chat 335

The Samsung Chat 335 is a BlackBerry style Dual SIM - GSM handset with has a prominent 4-row physical QWERTY keypad, 2.4” 320 x 240 pixels QVGA TFT display, 2 MP camera with video recording, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0, 3.5mm audio socket, Music player with DNSe 3D sound technology, Stereo FM radio with RDS, up to 8 GB micro SD support, and many more.

This mobile runs Java-based operating system. Although it’s old mobile operating system, it’s quite easy to operate and the device featured with some very useful applications including integrated social networking application that supports Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Flickr, there are many email accounts you can add as well. This device also supports instant messenger (IM) clients like Yahoo, MSN Messenger, G-Talk, Palringo, and more. However, Samsung Chat 335 does not support 3G.

Design and Build Quality of Samsung Chat 335

The Chat 335 is a mid-level phone that has a metallic finish and smart bar design. There is a QWERTY keyboard and Optical track pad that has a wide QVGA 2.4 inch display.

User Interface and Comfort to use Samsung Chat 335

While this device is not a smartphone, it does offer to capabilities that you would find on one. The user interface is simple to use with some customizable options.

Telephony and Phonebook

You will be able to store up to 1000 phonebook entries. The options are fairly generic with lines you can add a cell, home number, and add a photo of a contact.

Messaging and Emails

Despite having a full keyboard, the Chat is disappointing to text. The keys are not raised enough and are too soft. The optical track pad is not very accurate and too sensitive. There is also email support with integrated email profiles for Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN.

Samsung Chat 335 Music Player and FM Radio

The music player on the Chat is surprisingly good. There is a set of EQ settings that are decent and the phone is capable of loud volumes. Additionally, there is a stereo RM radio with RDS. It also sounds very good on the Chat. FM recording is also available so you can play back a song or show that you want to listen to again.

Still camera and Image Quality

With a 2 MP camera, the Chat can take some decent shots. While you won't want to rely on it for more than regular shots, pictures come out sharp. There is no auto-focus so in-door shots may not turn out very well.

Video Camera and Video Quality

The video camera is capable of taking very ordinary videos. You will only be able to watch them on the phone's screen.

Samsung Chat 335 Connectivity Options

You will be able to connect to a 2G network in 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. In addition, there is a Bluetooth 2.1 support as well as microUSB.

Organizer and Utility Tools

As far as utility tools, the Chat has your basic offerings. There is voice memo and an organizer that work like any standard device would.

Samsung Chat 335 Web browser and Applications

There is a built-in browser on the Chat that you can use to surf the web. You will probably not find yourself using it much as any website that is not optimized for mobile browsing. The optical track pad actually makes it even more difficult to browse. Where the Chat performs well in is the social networking and chat applications. You have app support for websites such as Facebook, Pairingo, MSN, Twitter, and Yahoo.

Google Maps and GPS

Unfortunately, the Chat does not have GPS support. You will have to depend on your carrier for any type of navigation support via the network.

Value for Money

At ?5140 price tag (approx., may vary), the Chat is well priced for a mid-range phone. There are other devices out there that you can buy for slightly more for a better messaging experience.

Verdict

While the Chat is a great looking device, it lacks some of the functionality that the phone was meant to ease. The keyboard and web browsing could have had room for improvement. Overall, the Chat is a solid buy that offers some great features on a non-smartphone.
