Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab Review

29 Jan, 13 06:44 PM

Overview

One of the Best 7" Tablets

Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab Design and User Interface

The 7 inch Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab is easy to handle in your hand. Its rounded slab design feels like it has good build quality. Powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, the Galaxy Tab has that familiar Android feel. It is easy to navigate through the device and it offers a lower level of customization than what you find on an Android smartphone. Samsung's TouchWiz is not completely available on the Galaxy Tab. You have the ability to use pinch zoom out to manage your home screen. You can have up to nine panes that you can arrange widgets and apps.

Phonebook and Calling

With the phonebook, you will find a redesigned interface from a Samsung Android handset experience. They have catered to the larger screen on the Galaxy tab. You are able to pick the contact list that should be displayed between phone memory, SIM-stored, and Google contacts. There is still the Quick contacts functionality that allows you to tap and hold on any name to bring up all the available options.

Gallery, Photo Viewer and Video Player

Samsung went for a stock option for its galley. You can sort your pictures into folders and synch to your Picasa web album. There is also the ability to add 3D effects and transitions. Pinch zooming is also available to take a closer look at your pictures. The video player has DivX and XviD video support that delivers smooth performance in full HD video.

Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab Music Player and FM Radio

The music player receives a new interface that allows you to filter entries by artist, album, genre, etc. on the left side. On the right, you are able to get track names. There is also an enabled equalizer present. In addition, there is a feature that allows you to look up a song on YouTube or Google search.

Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab Still Camera and Image Quality

There is a decent 3MP resolution camera on the Galaxy Tab. There is LED flash, but no shutter key. Features such as geo-tagging, face and smile detection are all available. Despite the low resolution, image quality does come out good.

Video Camera and Video Quality

An identical experience will be found with the video camera. You get 30 fps recording that will come out with decent levels of detail.

Web Browser and Applications

The web browser on the Galaxy Tab is perhaps its best feature. You have Flash support and the user interface is a mirror of a Froyo smartphone. You also have pinch-zooming and double tag supported.

Google Maps and GPS

Of course, Google Maps is the pre-installed mapping software. Voice guidance is still a feature that is lacking.

Distinctive Features of Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab

Perhaps the biggest feature that sets the Galaxy Tab apart from its competition is that it has the ability to make calls. Not even the Apple iPad has such a feature.

Verdict

The smaller size, ability to make voice calls, and great video/audio quality, make the Galaxy Tab a great tablet device. It is an option that anyone looking for a device that has great multimedia options should look at.
