Sony Ericsson Spiro Design and Build Quality

The Sony Ericsson Spiro is a slide style handset that has a sleek glossy front. There is also a matte battery cover to create a good contrast. There is a central Navigation key that is circular and has semi-circle menu section keys that wrap around the call send and end keys. Overall, the device is well built, but suffers from a cheap, plastic build.

User Interface and Comfort to Use Sony Ericsson Spiro

Sony Ericsson has put in their generic interface into the Spiro. It is very simplistic and you will not have any problem navigating through the device. The interface is boring with little customization. It is quite responsive to move through each application.

Telephony and Phonebook

You can store up to 2000 phonebook entries so you have plenty of space for all your contacts.

Messaging and Emails

With a threaded view option for text messaging, the Spiro delivers a nice experience. There is also MMS, e-mail, push e-mail, and instant messaging support.

Gallery, Photo Viewer and Video Player

The Spiro is not a multimedia powerhouse by any means. While you can view photos on the device, there is nothing that stands out. You can view videos that are in MP4, H.263, and H.264 video formats.

Sony Ericsson Spiro Music Player and FM Radio

The Walkman music player is standard on all Sony Ericsson devices. You can search by artist, album, genre, year, and individual tracks. The headphones that come in the box are decent quality. By setting the equalizer, you can also improve the experience. The loudspeaker has good sound quality as well.

Sony Ericsson Spiro Camera and Image Quality

Equipped with a 2MP resolution camera, you really shouldn't expect much from the photos you take. Colors and detail come out very poor in outdoor settings. As long as you have good lighting conditions, indoor shots are better.

Video Camera and Video Quality

Video recording should be avoided unless absolutely necessary on the device. The phone shoots at 176x144 resolution and 15 frames per second.

Sony Ericsson Spiro Connectivity Options

You can connect to GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. There is 2.1 Bluetooth and micro USB port support. There is no Wi-fi access so you will have to deal with 2G data network for access to the internet.

Organizer and Other Utility Tools

A generic organizer is one of the few tools you will find on the device.

Web Browser and Applications

A built-in WAP 2.0 browser will get you access to the internet. It is not going to be a noteworthy experience, but access is there.

Google Maps and GPS

There is no GPS support on the device so you will need to rely on other navigation tools.

Value for money and Verdict

At an affordable Rs. 4000 (approx., may vary), the Sony Ericsson Spiro delivers run of the mill features. For a device that sports a Walkman, there really isn't much that is notable about its music player. Everything else on the Spiro is average at best as well. Call quality is decent, as is battery life. At the end of the day, there isn't any reason to choose the Spiro over the other devices in this category.
